The living areas are articulated as glazed “negative space” atop the stone base, but sheltered below the cantilevering and heavier volume of bedrooms above. This arrangement ensures a continuous visual and spatial connection from Table Mountain to Table Bay.

A double volume kitchen at the mountain side of the house enables interaction between the more private spaces (such as study, tv room and bedrooms above) and the living area below. The relationship of the house to both its immediate and macro-scale landscapes is further given emphasis by placing the pool and undercover entertainment areas at the “back” or mountainside of the building; thereby enhancing a sense of being enveloped in the mountain’s slopes and being offered some respite from the city’s energy.

This home embraces the beautiful natural landscape provided by the slopes of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill. The building is defined by its relationship to the landscape; in some instances revealing glimpses of the natural setting while in others blurring the definition of interior and exterior spaces by opening up the interior spaces completely to the surroundings.

The owner & interior designer selected Forza, from the Sierra Collection by Dutch artisans, Hakwood, to floor the all-important guest suites and connecting spaces.

The Sierra Collection is characterised by French White oak boards with a unique sawn-face surface and a depth of colour that is typical of Hakwood’s most popular creations.

The visual and tactile effect is world-class and we’re proud to have been associated with yet another prestigious project in the premium hospitality sector.

Villa Lion View is located in the lush hills of Constantia and boasts an ideal view of Cape Town’s majestic mountain range.

This exquisitely designed guest house includes a penthouse and 3 private retreats that meet the most exacting living requirements.

Visser Architects specified Tranquility, from the Colour Collection, crafted by Dutch artisans Hakwood.

Like many of Hakwood’s creations, the process to create Tranquility is multi-faceted and time consuming:

Premium quality French White Oak is air dried and then kiln dried to exacting standards. Thereafter, it is fumed, profiled and finished with no fewer than two sealants, including oxidative and UV-cured oils.

The result is a hardwood floor finish of character and depth, one that will age gracefully, improving over time.

In “Cape Town 3”, Jane Visser and her colleagues have created a bespoke private residence that eschews passing fads, instead delivering a family home that pays homage to a traditional Cape vernacular but in a thoroughly contemporary way.

As one might expect, the quality and authenticity of materials used is of critical importance and we were so pleased to contribute beautiful hardwood flooring for the major public & private spaces.
