Installation:

19mm T&G Floors:

The traditional, suspended hardwood floor sound and feel ~ timber flooring at its most authentic.

  • The preferred method of installation for solid 19mm thick tongue and groove floor boards of random lengths is on a hardwood batten, generally 38mm in thickness and at a maximum of 500mm centers.

The facts:

  • Floor board thickness: 19mm
  • Substrate (hardwood batten) thickness: 38mm
  • Random length floor boards ranging from 0.6m to a maximum of 5.4m, resulting in a natural joint stagger.
  • A minimum of 15mm seasonal expansion gap at the perimeter of the floor – generally covered by a 22mm thick skirting detail.
  • Floor boards are supplied untreated. Mechanical sanding is required after installation, before one’s choice of sealant is applied.
  • Due to the thickness of the floor board and the extremely high density and durability of all BestWood Flooring species, future sanding is practically unlimited.
  • The alternative method of installation where available floor levels are limited or a silent floor finish is required, is for a direct stick or glue down application:

The same 19mm floor boards are glued directly to a prepared cement screed (with maximum 6% moisture content and a sufficient moisture barrier.) A suitable one-part elastomeric adhesive must be used. Once properly cured the floor is sanded and sealed according to the traditional manner.

14mm Engineered Floors:

An excellent alternative, pre-finished engineered hardwood floors provide the natural look and feel of hardwood flooring where floor levels or the time available for installation is limited.

14mm thick floors comprised of 3 layers – each of solid plantation grown hardwood – engineered in opposite directions for maximum stability and with either a click or T&G profile

The facts:

  • Floor board thickness: 14mm. Comprised of a 4mm top layer of selected hardwood, and subsequent layers of solid plantation grown hardwood and a veneer backing.
  • Substrate (rubber acoustic matt or acoustic board) thickness: 3mm
  • (New premium rubber matts with a sticky film ensure the quietest of finishes.)
  • Set length floor boards of 2.085m – which can be cut on site to result in a natural joint stagger.
  • A minimum of 10mm seasonal expansion gap at the perimeter of the floor – generally covered by a 22mm thick skirting detail.
  • Floor boards are supplied pre-finished with 6 layers of UV treated acrylic lacquer in a satin finish.
  • Future sanding life is generally limited to 3 full sandings.

It is our firm belief at BestWood that hardwood floors are stunning additions to any project interior or design specification – and should be treated with the necessary respect, both at time of installation and thereafter.

For that reason we recommend that only professional fitters install, sand and seal such precious floors.

BestWood would be more than happy to refer you to a preferred installer, or carpenter should you wish.
